George Banting King Alfred’s college 1860

George Banting b.1838, entered King Alfred’s teacher training college, Winchester, on the 23rd January 1860.
He was a Queen’s Scholar, second class.
His former occupation was as a pupil teacher at Newtown, he attended Newtown school for six years, five of those years would have been spent as a pupil teacher before sitting the Queen’s Scholarship examination.
His second class qualification would have brought him a salary of about £20 per annum.
