Private William Walter Banting Hampshire Reg
This post is hopefully the first of many to remember Bantings who served their countries during WWI
William Walter John Banting was born in Rhyde on the Isle of Wight 1888 and was christened on 10th June 1888 at Rhyde
- His father was Walter Banting born 1851 in Bishops Waltham Hampshire
- His mother was Julia Fullford
- He had 4 sisters Bessie and Louisa b.1886 and May and Kathleen b.1893
- In the 1901 census the family were living in North Arreton I.O.W
- Walter enlisted at Parkhurst on I.O.W
- Walter joined the Hampshire Regiment 10th Battalion. Regimental number 10070
- He served in the Balkans
William was killed in action on 10th August 1915 aged 28 years old at Gallipoli.
He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Canakkale Turkey
