Henry Banting was born on 9th July 1844, in Hambledon Hampshire, father George and mother Eliza Whittenham.
Henry was a carpenter and it was he who started a carpentry / building business in Hambledon.
At some point he went into business with someone called Thomas? Meredith , in 1885 their partnership was dissolved.
One of the jobs of the village carpenter was to make coffins and so the carpenter became the undertaker as well and this was the case for Henry.
The workshop, known as Banting Yard East St, has long since gone and the yard has been developed with houses but one of them has retained the name Banting Cottage
